The State of Illinois has recognized September 15th, 2009 as the first annual Carbon Day. The Green Carpet Gala was a fundraiser to increase awareness and raise money for the new statewide holiday. Special guests included IL State Rep. Karen May, Former Chicago Bulls player Sydney Green, and a film screening of the independent documentary "No Impact Man"

Chicago's oldest amusement park Kiddieland will be closing its doors after an 81-year run. Days spent riding the log rides, chugging around on the mini-train, and coasting on The Little Dipper (my first rollercoaster) will soon be a distant memory after the end of this summer.
